We are going to Turkey!
My family and I are headed to Turkey for 3 weeks and I am beyond excited! We have planned to travel around to different cities including Istanbul, Antalya, Bodrum, and then hopefully take a Ferry to Greece for a few days! While planning for this trip, I have realized that Turkey is HUGE and getting from city to city isn’t just an easy drive… It’s a plane or ferry ride. If you’ve been to Turkey and have any recommendations of things to do, see, or how to get around, please let me know!
Although I love traveling, I hate flying. Not because I’m nervous to fly, but because sitting in a seat next to random people for long periods of time and eating airplane food is not my cup of tea.
But really, who enjoys that? I think I can speak for all of us when I say absolutely no one does. I am MORE than prepared to make the flight to Turkey as comfortable as possible.
Below are 8 things I’m doing to get through this international flight comfortably!
ONE: Neck pillow! Bring the damn thing. Buy it. Even if you don’t think you’ll need it or your plane might have pillows. Don’t assume, just buy it. I didn’t bring one with me when I went to Dubai, and on the way back home I bought one at the airport. They’re extremely expensive because they know people are desperate and will spend the money, so buy it in advance! I linked the exact pillow I have below in 2 colors.
TWO: Eye mask! I don’t ever use an eye mask but I packed one because I cannot stand being almost asleep and someone opens their window. I don’t care how silly they look, I’m going to use it and own it.
THREE: Headphones. Yes the plane usually has headphones but they’re so cheap and uncomfortable I always bring my own. If you want to be fancy, use the kind that completely cancel out any noise.
FOUR: Comfy clothes. This is an obvious one, but I always make sure I wear something super comfy on the plane. I’m wearing leggings, a t-shirt, and I ALWAYS bring a jacket of some sort! The plane is usually cold.
FIVE: Extra clothes. It’s nice to pack an extra shirt to change into right before you land! After I’ve been traveling for several hours, I hate stepping off a plane looking (and smelling) bad. I stuck an extra t-shirt in my carry on for this trip.
SIX: Necessary toiletries. The things I always pack on a long flight are a toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, chapstick, and lotion (the travel size of each, of course). It’s always nice to get off the plane feeling some-what refreshed.
SEVEN: Food. Food. & more food. Airplane food is gross and I can never find anything half-way healthy at the airport to take on the plane. I have prepared meals and snacks to take with me! I’m bringing a backpack as my personal item so it will fit all my food. Fruit, protein bars, chicken and rice, you name it and it’s in my backpack.
EIGHT: Prepare your plane entertainment in advance. I try to sleep on long flights, but if I can’t I get so bored and always have nothing to do. One flight I literally watched 12 movies… never again. I’ll usually spend time organizing apps and pictures on my phone, or making to do lists for when I get home. I wish I was more of a reader! And if you are, bring a book. Download a podcast in advance. Make sure you have something to pass the time.
